Best international spell checker in Debian?

Hi,

What's the best international spell checker in Debian?

I'm currently using ispell, but it is quite old (see bug 217393
in particular) and doesn't have a good interface for interactive
checking from the shell (the latest version -- not in Debian --
fixes that).

Automatic language detection would be a good idea.
