Thanks to Rene for the tip. And as an answer to Kent:
The package installs files into /etc/menu-methods and /etc/xdg/menus, wich are being called/used by the "update-menu" command (from the "menu" package). After installation, running update-menu, and renewed login, I now have my Debian menu :-)
