Turning off IPv6 for kernel 2.6.0
I have a server that has been running sarge nicely using kernel 2.4.22.
I decided to upgrade to 2.6.0 and ran into a problem:
The new kernel has IPv6 built in and on boot gives the message "IPv6
tunneling over IPv4". Problem is that although the network card is
recognized just fine, I get "no route to network" errors and the
following: "eth0: no IPv6 routers present". Now if "router" means
hardware, then this makes sense. My firewall is IPv4 only.
Since all the rest of my network is IPv4, I'd prefer to keep it that way
for this server as well. So I tried to rmmod ipv6 and got a "module is
in use" error. The same result using modconf.
Question: how do I turn off IPv6 so I can get the server on the net and
keep the ipv6 module from loading on boot? I hope I don't have to
recompile the kernel....
TIA!
