Hello Tom,

Your drive will work fine with GNU/Linux.
Don't take any notice of the 'recommendations', money is generally
involved. 
I use W.D., Seagate, and Maxtor drives - no problems.
I haven't tried Fujitsu yet, apparently they are good also.
