I, for one, appreciate hearing what you've gotten to work successfully. I am looking for an external right now, because I've used both internal and external under Linux and do find the externals to be easier, but that doesn't mean everyone will find them easier. And this list is archived for the googlers that will be looking for this kind of information in the future.
