Kernel 2.6.0 Freeze After CD-ROM Mount

After issuing a "mount /cdrom" last night, my machine appeared to freeze.

I have two CD drives in my linux box but had only one CD in a drive.  /cdrom might have pointed to the unit without a CD, and when no media was present the kernel might have paniced.

Any ideas?
