Hi All,

anybody know of a way to switch workspaces in gnome/
any windowmanager? (on Debian of course ;-) )

The enlightenment window manager comes with a utility called eesh whish is used to send commands to the window manager via IPC. So doing a eesh -e "goto_desktop 0" switches to the first desktop, etc.

Sorry,

doesn't work, may due to metacity2.4/gnome2.2 (sid), I renamed
my workspaces to "1", "2" etc. :

user@local:/home/user >eesh -e "goto_desktop 2"
X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 2 (X_ChangeWindowAttributes)
Resource id in failed request: 0x0
Serial number of failed request: 9
Current serial number in output stream: 11
user@local:/home/user >

Well, I said "the enlightenment window manager". If you are running metacity, you are not running enlightenment. eesh is not able to talk to other window managers than e.
