I'm using the Gimp 1.2.3. Several months ago the box the Gimp was on was running testing. I had installed some TT fonts into /usr/local/share/fonts/ttfonts and everything worked fine. Later on I changed the box to unstable. Either in that process or later on I think I noticed that the fontconfig package was installed and changed things a bit. Now the Gimp does not see all of the TT fonts that I had installed (although interesting enough, OpenOffice does see them). I guess this is a Gimp problem, but that said, I've found the whole font process difficult to follow in Linux/Debian. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Linux/Debian, but I'm a bit lost when it comes to fonts - and actually many other things too ;-). I presume that Debian is in the process of converting from defoma to fontconfig, and that as an unstable user, I'm getting a bit of both. Anyway, I'd sure appreciate any pointers to any good, up-to-date howto's/tutorial/ramblings on how to manage fonts on an unstable box. Also would like to know what happened to those TT fonts in Gimp. The error message I get in the Gimp texttool dialog box for one of these fonts is "This is a 2 byte font & may not be displayed correctly". As always, many thanks to everyone here.
