It seems to freeze. alt-f* doesn't work, and ctrl-alt-del doesn't do anything.
The only way to get the system back again is to eject the pcmcia card (or do a
hard reboot), at which point it gives a DHCP failed message.

I could, but I don't know the appropriate values. I'm a member of a home network
with 3 other computers hooked through a router to a cable modem.

The other option, if it comes to that, is to actually move my computer over to
the modem for a little bit and use a wired ethernet connection, and worry about
wireless later.
