That is probably true. I guess the main reason is that X comes from
higher-end system than windows. Have a look at some old Sun
documentation : in 1992, you could buy a workstation with low, medium
and high resolution. Low was 1024x768. That's at about the same time
that PC users thought 640x480 was huge
