Which boot option did you use? If I remember right the default install
kernel is one that supports on IDE/PCI devices (and is called
idepci). It's been a while since I installed Debian on any thing
(leave alone a SCSI system)....at the boot prompt ask for help as
instructed, and then pick the appropriate kernel.
