See http://www.phred.org/~alex/stripmime.html :

"Stripmime is a perl script which is designed for use with mailing
list systems. The goal of the program is to take email which has MIME
formatting and to break it down into simple text email. This prevents
HTML formatting from messing up your digests, or attachments from
being sent to the list at all."

The examples show its usage to filter MIME out of Mailman lists, but
it should be easy to set up procmail to pipe all your incoming
messages through it.

we don't give them up now, only because we are frightened.
