Its much easier than it sounds actually. All the config files are
commented liberally with lots and lots of information. man pages will
also give you lots more information and if that isnt enough - you can
check with google. 

You just have to remember to take it one step at a time when you start
off. Debconf also doea some stuff to help you out.
