It may be now - I don't follow the kernel development lists directly,
but what comes up on lwn.net, but ISTR some references at one point
about Linus, after much prodding, looking at it during the 2.4.x series
and "playing" with merging it, but not acting at the time.

As I said, I get the impression that it isn't the sort of code
functionality that lights a fire in his eyes, the way the theoretical
aspects of core kernel roles do.
