USB not on after install

Hallo!
It's the 1st time I install Debian. I've installed it on a Pentium 166, 72MB,
6GB, no X in order to use it as a server (printer, files, ssh, apache,
php-nuke).
I installed from 1 Woody CD, then from the net. As both printer (Epson C82)
and scanner (Epson 610) are usb I need usb support to be installed... but it
is not by default:
- -------
quiniserver:/etc# lsmod
Module Size Used by
parport_pc 7276 1 (autoclean)
lp 4580 0 (autoclean)
parport 6676 1 (autoclean) [parport_pc lp]
af_packet 6136 0 (unused)
- -------
I cannot see any line in dmesg's output referring to usb, but this computer
has been working under a Mandrake 8.2 with usb support. Dmesg's output:
- -------
quiniserver:~# dmesg|grep usb
quiniserver:~#
- -------
A few more details:
1. kernel installed is 2.2.20-idepci,
2. I have no usb* modules in /lib/modules
3. There's only 1 directory, called "pci", at /proc/bus
Thanks!!
