Infrastructure? Ain't no such thing Down Under, mate.
The provider, no matter who, tries to put you through the wringer by over-charging 
for a modem and line splitter so if you've got any sense you buy your own and 
just pay for enabling your phone line. 
I bought an ethernet modem to $A150 - my ISP was offering this for $A225. 
I bought a splitter for $A10 - the ISP was offering it for $A15. My own connection 
was set up using ppoeconf. I'm trying to set up for a friend who has bought a D-Link
DSL-200 USB modem which he was told would work under Linux - hence my
queries.
