Mmm, are you sure he needs sym53c8xx?  His lspci seems to indicate
otherwise:

device 00:01.0 looks like a symbios RAID device, not the 53c8xx.  I
avoid Compaq like the plague so I can't add much intelligence to this
discussion :)
