Isn't X 4.2 in testing now?  Setting up simple pinning is as easy as
putting the following in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/10default (the exact
filename is up to you, I just use 10default):

   APT::Default-Release "testing";

replace "testing" with your choice of the release to follow.  One caveat
is that you can't use the release names (ie woody, potato, sarge, etc)
in your sources.list, you have to use "stable", "testing", "unstable",
etc.
