Apart from my own personal opinion that Java is sitting somewhere 
between medieval torture and a fish on a parachute at 10.000 feet being 
hit by lightning (makes no sense and hurts):

AWT is no good. Ask anyone who tried. If you want to do anything with 
graphics or a GUI in Java using "standard" tools, use Swing.
