I am not sure why you'd ever be considering using fat32 vs ext3 theres
no comparison really. fragmentation under linux(and unix in general) is
not really an issue.

are you saying you want to format with 8096 block size? in my experience
adjusting the block size doesn't affect performance in a noticable
manor. from looking at the manpage of mke2fs you can format using block
sizes up to 4096 bytes. If your really concerned about performance I
reccomend setting up a raid0 array of at least 2-3 disks. I used to
do a lot of video capture on my systems a while back using DiVx, I
setup a raid array to do just that till I started doing capturing and
saw that it was writing maybe 100kbyte/second of data to the disk :)

if you want to record VCDs, I highly reccomend the Likko Electronics
VDR2100($465 from lik-sang.com). It records VCDs on-the-fly, no computer,
just plug it into your TV/VCR/TIVO/whatever. I've recorded nearly 600
VCDs since I got it in febuary. Realtime recording, no waiting 12 hours
to convert formats or whatever, it doesn't hog any of my computers, works
perfectly everytime, no crashes/reboots or other screwups, has a remote
control..really nice unit. Well to be honest I have had ONE coaster
made by the unit, but one in 600 isn't enough to upset me.

It is pricey that is true, but if your into recording a lot of stuff I
really believe it's worth it(I record a lot off my tivo, incase the
drives die). One downside though is its only available overseas, I
searched for hours to find a U.S. reseller and could not.
