Yes. The xterm-title mini-howto to which I referred also has advice on
how to produce similar effects for other terminals and shells.
What I'm looking for is the ability to dynamically change the xterm
title to include the name of the command currently being executed. In
zsh this is trivial, but in bash it's apparently a "thorny problem".
It's hard to believe that someone hasn't come up with a workaround for
something so desirable, but a google search didn't come up with much.
