Lucky you.  If you want to change that, work tech support some time and
try to walk a user who thinks he knows more than you through fixing his
mess.

Actually, cars have gotten worse in this respect where computers have
gotten better.  Up until recently, I owned a 1928 Ford Model A.  It came
with a Ford multitool, which was a combination screwdriver, boxwrench
and hammer.  There is nothing you can't fix on that car with that tool,
or with parts that you couldn't find at a farm supply, a well stocked
hardware store, or if you're lucky, a Fred Meyer or a lawnmower shop. 
They were relatively simple machines, even compared to, say, steam and
oil powered tractors of the time.
