You have to use the bttv drivers - for video and audio
tuner, tvaudio, bttv, ..., and you have to include the following line in 
your .xawtv file:

mixer = line 

(this will tell the tv app to use line in as a mixer device for the tv -
since I guess you have the sound output of the tv card connected to the
line in of your sound card).
