I think it's fairly clear that there's still lots of work to do. The
best way to help is to file good bugs, produce patches for whatever you
can, and generally make life easier for the developers who are trying to
improve this stuff. Even helping with simple things means that somebody
will have more time to work on something more complex.

Absolutely. That's what I was trying to get across by quoting the
Advocacy mini-HOWTO.
