If it were me (but I'm a software engineer who administers his own
machines and the occasional company box; I'm not a full-time sysadmin),
I'd run Debian unstable on all machines, and I'd have a scratch system
that I'd keep up to date on a daily basis, and upgrade all the others
only after going through some basic testing and 48 hours with no
problems on the scratch machine. I'd also keep, for every package, the
most recent two .debs that I considered to be reliable. This way, I
could tell management, "Our production systems will be running the
latest version believed (by me) to be reliable, and whenever a problem
creeps in, I should be able to downgrade to the previous
believed-reliable version immediately, and I'll be able to install fixes
within two days of their release."
