I logged out of gnome and stopped gdm, then I got a list of Ximian packages, with dpkg -l | grep xim dpkg -l | grep hel (There were still some Helix packages left, and I used the short versions of the name because the whole version number didn't always fit into the version column; of course you have to make sure before you remove a package that it is not detecting some other word with that string in it.) Then I used 'apt-get --purge remove' to get rid of the packages (some of the package names will be truncated because the package name column isn't wide enough, make sure you use the full name.) I used --purge because I didn't want Helix/Ximian's config files around; I don't know if this was a valid concern. You will probably lose some Debian packages that have gnome dependencies; just reinstall them after you get Debian gnome installed. To get a good idea of a base set of packages to install look at http://packages.debian.org/unstable/net/task-gnome-net.html http://packages.debian.org/unstable/x11/task-gnome-apps.html http://packages.debian.org/unstable/x11/task-gnome-desktop.html and if you want http://packages.debian.org/unstable/games/task-gnome-games.html Unfortunately, the task packages are not available in testing right now, but you can get a list of the packages they would have installed by looking at the above pages. Also, if you were using gdm before, you will probably want to install it again. -- Harry Henry Gebel West Dover Hundred, Delaware GPG encrypted email gladly accepted.
