I use a DSL line from Speakeasy (www.speakeasy.net). I am *very*
pleased with their service! They are very geek friendly. They are
willing to give you multiple static IP addresses at a reasonable price
(something like $5 per additional address), DNS service, a shell
account, etc. The great thing is that they don't prohibit running
servers on their network! They are the only residential ISP I've found
that has that policy.

The one downside of using Speakeasy is that they have a 1 year minimum
commitment on DSL (not on dialup, though). If you cancel early then
they charge you something like $250.

I used to have a cable modem with RCN. Avoid them. Their service was
absolutely horrid. The connection was technically *up* most of the
time, but latency was the worst I've ever seen (try 30 second round trip
times on pings).

I have heard good things about shore.net as well. In fact I was once
offerred a sysadmin job by them, and toured their facility. They're a
very clueful group.

Good luck, and welcome to Boston.
