Thanks for your answer.
On both systems (Alpha and ix86): 2.2.17. The kernel, that
is provided with the potato installation disks. On both
sym53c8xx feels responsible for the SCSI controller
(53c875 based on the Alpha and 53c895 based on ix86).
I will have to compile my own kernels and see what
happens.
