RE: XFCOnfiggin'

hi

.. this has actually been a long-running saga on the list (well for yours
truly anyhow). Both laptops are running 3.3.6 (mine's 3.3.6-6), not sure
about the other. The S3 Savage card is supported in all versions of 3.3.6
(apparently). I've also downloaded a specific XF86_SVGA server for my card.
The generic SVGA server didn't recognise my chipset, but the new one does
(which is something of a breakthrough). However, when I run 'startx' all I
get is a blank screen. If I Ctrl+F1 to TTY1 then I see the message "explicit
kill or server shutdown". The output of startx is below, I'm running out of
ideas...

tks, A

Crystal Ball is a little cloudy today... but I'm seeing different
versions of X -- one that supports certain graphics hardware and one
that does not. A likely course of action is to run x86config on the
machine where X isn't working, and find out if the display hardware is
supported. If yes, continue with configuration, using the other Config
file as a reference. If no, update X (which may entail updating Debian
version).

You might try posting the exact problem in the future. Clairvoyance is
tricky business.
