Has anyone successfully built XFree86 from the Debian 2.1 sources?
I have tried `debian/rules', `debian/rules build', `debian/rules binary' and
`dpkg-buildpackage' as both a normal user and root to no avail. It does not
link the object code to produce any executables e.g. X servers even though it
spends hours compiling the lot, and stops with an error about the permissions
being set wrong on the control directory. The dpkg-buildpackage docs only
mention the control _file_ and even with that and/or debian/ changed to these
permissions the build fails.

I have all the packages it says I need to build it.

Any advice or pointers to the right docs appreciated,
Thanks, Roger
