Not strictly true.  There are, as far as I know, exactly 3 PCI modems
currently working with Linux, although they are all reputed to be pains to
install.  USRobotics makes one of them, and I've seen it work, so it is
possible.  The reason PCI modems have this reputation is that _most_ PCI
modems are Winmodems.

As for the "install-'em-both" approach, I can't think of any reason why it
wouldn't work.
