Here's how this changed after I copied the system map into the /boot
directory
Apr 30 08:43:45 main syslogd 1.3-3#31: restart.
Apr 30 08:43:45 main kernel: klogd 1.3-3#31, log source = /proc/kmsg started.
Apr 30 08:43:46 main kernel: Inspecting /boot/System.map
Apr 30 08:43:46 main kernel: Loaded 5723 symbols from /boot/System.map.
Apr 30 08:43:46 main kernel: Symbols match kernel version 2.2.6.
Apr 30 08:43:46 main kernel: Loaded 51 symbols from 4 modules.
Apr 30 08:43:46 main kernel: Linux version 2.2.6 (root@main) (gcc version 2.7.2.3) #1 Tue Apr 20 22:43:57 EDT 1999
Apr 30 08:43:46 main kernel: Detected 451029794 Hz processor.
So it looks like the kernel *does* need this file. What's the function
and why did it work without it?
