I believe you'll need to boot off a floppy in order to get control of your
machine. If you don't have a rescue disk at hand, you can probably download
a boot/root image from the net and create an installation floppy, then just
shell out of the installation and hopefully repair the damage. Others on
this list are a lot more literate about this sort of thing though, and I
recommend you take my advice with a grain of salt.
