floppy install: endless loop
Sorry in advance for a probably naive question:
I'm trying to install Debian 1.3.1 by floppy on my Toshiba Tecra 520CDT
(Pentium 166, 4GB, 32MB). I've tried several different sources for the
floppy, including "InfoMagic" CD's, which produced a rescue/boot floppy
that failed. I've also tried making a floppy from the ftp distribution in
ftp.mi.us.debian.org/debian/bo/disks-i386/1997-10-1/resc1440.bin. That
floppy produces the following result when I try to boot up the laptop:
Loading root.bin....
Loading linux....
...Toshiba Video BIOS V1.20...
...Self test...memory 32MB....
...LDLINUX.SYS V1.30....
and then I get a "Welcome to Debian GNU/LINUX 1.3!" screen finishing with
boot:
According to
ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/stable/disks-i386/current/install.html
I should be able just to type <enter> at this point to begin installation.
However, when I try this, the process above merely repeats, and I wind up
at the boot: prompt again. Same thing if I try boot: rescue
root=/dev/fd0.
What am I missing here?
Thanks very much for any helpful advice.
