Re: Building Debian's source for Sendmail

Yup, it's called "sendmail_8.8.5-1.tar.gz". I doubled checked at
ftp.debian.org in both stable and rex distributions:

debian:...ributions/debian/rex-updates/source> dir sendmail*
-rw-r--r-- 1 10248 1608 13895 Jan 21 19:49 sendmail_8.8.5-1.diff.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 10248 1608 996696 Jan 21 19:52 sendmail_8.8.5-1.tar.gz
debian:...ributions/debian/rex-updates/source> cd ../../stable/source/mail
debian:...distributions/debian/bo/source/mail> dir sendmail*
-rw-r--r-- 1 10248 1608 13895 Jan 21 19:49 sendmail_8.8.5-1.diff.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 10248 1608 996696 Jan 21 19:52 sendmail_8.8.5-1.tar.gz

I am also surprised to find sendmail in the old packaging format.

: Anyway, the "Debian" way to do it is to get the .orig.gz, the .diff.gz
: and the .dsc, and then type
:
: dpkg-source -x sendmail_8.8.5-1.dsc
:
: and let dpkg-source do the unpacking and patching.

I know, I know but in this case there is no .dsc file at all.
The package it self is of good quality. I've been using it in my production
servers with no problems at all. It's just that is in the old format.

Any way, I just found out that the patch seems to be already applied to the
.tar.gz file. I am trying to build it right now...

Thanks,

E.-
