Urgent! tar hangs on SCSI tape
Hi,
I urgently have to backup my Linux box. But tar hangs after a while,
and to get the /dev/st0 free, I have to reboot. The task isn't
killable (D flag in the ps listing). My configuration: Adaptec SCSI
adapter, DAT tape. I want to backup the whole disk, including a vfat
partition.
My first question: Has the tape to be formatted in any way? If yes: How
can I do it under Linux? (I prepared the tape by "mt erase", but this
may be the wrong way)
Or may there be a problem with the vfat partition? (files from there
where the last ones listed)
Or may there be a configuration bug in the kernel stuff?
Or is there sinply a known bug in one of the software components
involved? How to work around?
Thanks in advance for any hint!
