esc with telnet/xterm

Hi!

We use software that uses ESC on a SCO Unix-machine, and connect to that
with telnet and xterm. However, when I press esc, nothing happens, but
when i hit it twice, everything works correctly...

I guess this happens because some software - bash/xterm/telnet - hooks the
escape, but i don't know how to get it work with just one escape
pressing..

If any of you know how this problem could be solved, please email me..
