Se não deve ser utilizado, então não deveria existir :-)
Do man do aptitude:

-f
Try hard to fix the dependencies of broken packages, even if it means 
ignoring the actions requested on the command line.

A propósito o man do aptitude está com vários caracteres estranhos. Isso 
acontece no Debian (4.0) de vocês também?

Exemplo:
\fB-h\fR, \fB--help\fR
Display a brief help message. Identical to the \fBhelp\fR action.
