We were busy working on texlive-2007.  And I must admit I don't remember
what you said about the current packages:  Do you think we can upload
them, or are there still issues?  The upstream version is a beta - is
this releasable?

No, here it unpacks fine.  I've looked at it, here are some questions:

- wouldn't it better to patch the Makefile to disable maintainer mode,
  instead of setting all those variables?  And wouldn't it make sense to
  patch the Makefile sources, too, to allow easy submission of the
  patches to upstream?

- Isn't it possible (and if yes, a cleaner approach) to pass --docdir 
  already to the configure call, not make install?

Otherwise, the packaging looks nice and clean, and the patches are
reasonable (a lot of them should be submitted upstream, have you done
that?  Have you already established a contact with Joachim?).
