Yes and no. Now, I use this version nearly one year and it works. It's
ready to go to unstable and later to testing.

Yes. Upstream does not release very often and AFIAK the beta state is,
because their is no clear documentation how to build the tar.gz from the
CVS.

Maybe. The problem is, that any Makefile can trigger a rebuild of the
configure script, which triggers a rebuild of the Makefiles, which
breaks my patches.

I've submitted the realy fix for this bug: disable automaintainer mode.
This was accepted by upstream.

No, the docdir is hard coded in doc/Makefile.am as $(datadir)/doc/…
which is /usr/doc/…

Yes, all my patches, except to one for external clisp, are accepted.
