I wanted to write the same in this moment ... we have to change
pdftosrc = pdftosrc
to
pdftosrc =
in texk/web2c/Makefile.in, that's all.
Now for xetex...
Sometimes I am asking myself whether it makes sense to deal with this
poppler stuff and why not push it upstream ...
