I think I know why udpmap called by root searches for my map files ;-/.

/home/chris/texmf/fonts/map/dvips/ and still in the obsolete
directory /home/chris/texmf/dvips/config/
To get it clear: In teTeX 3.0 every user has its own
configuration---even including an own updmap.d directory---that root
doesn't read or use? And every user has to call some commands by
himself to get his own stuff to work?!
