I'm not sure that tetex-(base+bin) would "give you a working basic LaTeX
system" (quote from the tetex-base long description) if you rip off all
the fonts out of tetex-base. ;-)

But perhaps some people would appreciate having only a basic set of
fonts in tetex-base and all the others in
<substitute-package-name-here>. I have no strong opinion on this point...
