Package: tetex-base
Version: 1.0-10
Severity: wishlist

The directory /var/lib/texmf is contained not only in tetex-base,
but also in tetex-bin, etc. However current tetex-base remove this
directory when it is purged with dpkg option '--force-depends'.
If once it is done, system can not be turn back only because tetex-base
is installed again, since subdirectory /var/lib/texmf/web2c has been
removed already. Therefore, to turn back again, tetex-bin (or other
package contains /var/lib/texmf/web2c) must be installed after
installing tetex-base.
I think this state is undesirable, so do not remove /var/lib/texmf
when purging it (with '--force-depends'), please.

Regards,

tetex-bin has a Depends: on tetex-base. dpkg won't let you remove tetex-base
unless you remove tetex-bin before. When you use dpkg with
--force-depends option, you willfully break stuff yourself. Package hasn't
got anything to do with that.
