Ah, oops, I see updating X gave me the plain Xaw instead of neXtaw.
With a preload of nextaw or xaw95, xdvi is fine.  With the XF4 plain
Xaw, it's bad as described.

There's a certain irony there, it used to be that nextaw broke xdvi,
now it makes it work!

Well, there must be a good reason for this, perhaps a simple one.
Suggests a certain lack of compatibility between Xaw 6 in XF3 and XF4
though.
