FWIW, I'm using a pl2303-based USB-to-serial dongle to connect my
laptop (no serial ports) to Blade 1000. I'm using cu, invoking it as
'cu -s 9600 -l /dev/ttyUSB0' and have no problems sending a break by
pressing <Enter>~#
