Kernel 2.6.12-1 on Sparc 64

HI,
I've recntly installed Debian Sarge (3.1) onto my Sparc. Then upgraded the 
kernel to 2.6.12-1.

I have found that it fails to boot:
It goes as far as:

Uncompressing image...
Loaded Kernel 2.6.12
Loading initial ramdisk (3358720 bytes at 0x10C00000 phys, 0x40C00000 virt)..
/
Remapping the kernel... done.
Booting kernel...

Then the screen goes blank and nothing.

It is a:
	Sun Ultra 5/10 UPA/PCI UltraSparcIIi 300Mhz with 256Mb Ram.

Note: the 2.4.27 kernel boots fine.
