Works perfectly on my U10 300Mhz 1GB Ram.

Probably a problem with the graphics driver. What exact graphics card do
you have? What happens if you add a boot option to disable the
framebuffer for that card. What happens if you use a serial console?

Mine is:
0000:01:02.0 0300: 1002:4754 (rev 9a)
0000:01:02.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc 3D Rage I/II
215GT [Mach64 GT] (rev 9a)

(I pulled out the Creator 3D as I don't have a monitor or adaptor for it.)
