Re: ANN: initial sparc potato boot floppies ready for testing

Well, my first try is not successful at all :((

Hardware: SparcClassic (sun4m), 24MB RAM, 207MB harddisk.

1. booting from network (tftpboot.img)
--------------------------------------
Report: image downloaded, then messages are displayed very slowly (could be
  PROM console ?). However the kernel reports cgthree detected and switching to
  fb0 (85x39).
...
Switching to colour frame buffer device 85x39
fb0: cgthree at 0.60000000
...
  I further get some kernel oops but the welcome box from dbootstrap is
  displayed.
...
Starting pid 6, console /dev/tty1: '/etc/init.d/rcS '
Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 0xfdde0000
tsk->mm->context = 00000002
tsk->mm->pgd = f016f800
...
Running /etc/init.d/rcS
...
more oops
...
/etc/init.d/rcS done.
starting dbootstrap

I then started to configure the system (keyboard, partitions, format,
kernel&modules from nfs), but after the network was configured I still was
unable to mount an nfs filesystem. The mount process is acknowledged by my
server but client still refuse to mount it.

Client side:
# mount -r -t nfs 192.168.1.1:/debian/dists/sparc-2.2.14-potato-boot /instmnt
Mounting 192.168.1.1:/debian/dists/sparc-2.2.14-potato-boot on /instmnt failed: Invalid argument

Server side:
Jan  8 17:32:14 jazz mountd[226]: NFS mount of /debian/dists/sparc-2.2.14-potato-boot attempted from 192.168.1.2
Jan  8 17:32:14 jazz mountd[226]: /debian/dists/sparc-2.2.14-potato-boot has been mounted by 192.168.1.2

2. booting from floppy (rescue.img from sun4cdm/disks-1.44 and root.bin from disks-1.44)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Report: same problems as above.

3. booting from network+nfsroot (linux-a.out from sun4cdm/ and root.tar.gz)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Report: can boot the kernel but was unable to mount the nfsroot fs because this
  kernel is not configured for root on NFS ;(( (need CONFIG_IP_PNP=y,
  CONFIG_IP_PNP_BOOTP=y, CONFIG_IP_PNP_RARP=y and CONFIG_ROOT_NFS=y).

4. Other troubles:
------------------
- more does not always wait I hit a key to continue displaying data. It is
  triggered even 15-20s then pass automatically to the next screen.
- after about 1 min not using the keyboard, the screen is blanked but does not
  revert back to show its contents when I hit a key. I have had to STOP-A +
  reset ;((

PS: full log of kernel messages is attached below.
