Re: Ohh boy do I have defuncts!

Obviously, init is going nuts. Have you checked the logs for messages
from init (try daemon.log and debug), assuming syslogd gets started.
Also, look at inittab to see if something looks funny or try isolating
it by starting in single user mode and starting services manually,
one by one, if you can get past the initial install.

Besides this, how are you building potato, from slink then upgrading?
I've done it this way several times in the last few weeks without any
problems. The only twist is to upgrade the kernel before upgrading
libc6. (BTW, last time I checked, kernel-image* did not exist for
sparc in potato except for ultra which I assume is no good for a
non-ultra machine. I had to copy a stock 2.2.9 kernel + modules from
an already upgraded machine. Maybe there's an image there today....
Nope, just checked ftp.eecs.umich.edu and ftp.debian.org, they only have
kernel-image-2.2.9-sun4u_2.2.9-2.deb. Unless you already have an image
deb or another sparc to build one on, this could be a stickler.) Or are
there sparc bootdisks for potato yet? Or did you build custom bootdisks?

Hopefully, this will give you a clue.... Good luck!
